New Toyota Hilux revealed with EV and 48V hybrid options

Details

Toyota has unveiled the new, ninth-generation version of its Hilux pick-up truck.

The new model – which will be offered only as a double-cab truck – will launch with a choice of fully electric or 48V hybrid diesel powertrains.

The EV will feature a 59.2kWh battery, and front and rear e-axles providing permanent all-wheel drive, with torque figures of 205Nm and 268.6Nm respectively. Provisional figures are a 715kg payload, a 1,600kg towing capacity, and a WLTP range between charges of around 150 miles.

The 48V hybrid will feature a lithium-ion battery, an electric motor-generator, and a DC-DC converter, assisting a 2.8-litre diesel engine. This version will offer up to 1t payload, and a 3,500kg braked towing capacity.

An additional hydrogen fuel cell version of the new Hilux is due to be introduced in 2028.

Depending on spec, the new Hilux will feature a digital driver display and infotainment touchscreen both measuring up to 12.3in.

Remote and connected services will be available via the MyToyota app, through which fleet managers will be able to view data from up to 10 vehicles.

Newly available assistance systems will include low speed acceleration suppression, proactive driving assist, an emergency driving stop system, blind spot monitoring, safe exit assist, and a driver monitor camera, and the vehicle will also be able to receive over-the-air updates.

UK sales for the new Hilux are scheduled to begin in June 2026. Prices are yet to be announced.
