Stellantis, Renault, and a consortium of hydrogen energy suppliers have announced coordinated plans to bring hydrogen fuel cell vans to the UK commercial vehicle market by late 2027. The vehicles are positioned as a solution for operators requiring longer ranges and faster refuelling than battery electric vans currently offer. The UK government’s Hydrogen Strategy includes funding for 25 new public hydrogen refuelling stations targeted at commercial vehicle operators. Refrigerated transport and long-distance delivery operators are identified as the primary early adopter segments, where hydrogen’s range advantage is most compelling.
