CameraMatics has expanded its platform with integrated asset tracking, allowing operators to monitor trailers, plant and high-value equipment alongside vehicles in a single system.
The move pushes CameraMatics beyond traditional vehicle telematics, giving fleets visibility across a wider range of assets including machinery, pallets and containers.
At a practical level, the system brings all tracked items into the same dashboard, with assets appearing on the map alongside vehicles. That allows operators to see where equipment is, how it is moving and how it is being used across the business.
Mervyn O’Callaghan, founder and CEO of CameraMatics, said the focus is as much about efficiency as security.
“Asset tracking isn’t just about theft prevention, it’s about operational control,” he said. “It gives customers real-time visibility of what they have and where it is, helping them recover equipment quickly, reduce downtime and operate more efficiently.”
The hardware itself is designed to be simple. The trackers are compact, battery-powered and require no wiring, allowing them to be fitted quickly across a wide range of assets.
Once deployed, they provide real-time location data and movement history, with the ability to trigger alerts if equipment leaves predefined geofenced areas.
The system can also detect impacts using G-force thresholds, giving operators visibility of potential damage or misuse.
That adds another layer beyond basic tracking, particularly for fleets managing high-value or sensitive equipment.
Battery life is a key part of the proposition. Devices automatically enter sleep mode when stationary to conserve power, reactivating when movement is detected. CameraMatics claims a lifespan of up to seven years from two lithium AA batteries.
In the event of theft, devices can be switched into a recovery mode to enable continuous real-time tracking.
From a fleet management perspective, the bigger shift is consolidation. Rather than running separate systems for vehicles and assets, operators can manage everything through a single platform.
The system is also designed to scale, with CameraMatics saying it can support thousands of tracked assets within one account.
For operators, the benefit is straightforward. More visibility means less lost equipment, fewer delays and better utilisation of assets that would otherwise be difficult to track.
With fleets under pressure to improve efficiency as well as security, integrated asset tracking is becoming less of an add-on and more of a baseline expectation.
